The Impact Of Role Models’ Character On Female College Students’ Mate Coping

Mate choice has been an important area of research in psychology，and matechoice coping is a new perspective of mate choice. Although some scholars havegiven their views about mate choice coping, the studies should be improved. Thispaper aims to explore the influence of a new factor—the characters of role model—on mate copying phenomenon. This paper includes three parts:The first part is the questionnaire survey. In this study, on the basis of thereference to past literature, the female characters questionnaire in mate choice wasformed. It includes3dimensions and18items, and can be used to explore the modelfemale characters in mate choice.The second part is experimental study. This study aims to verify the existence ofmate copying and to explore the factors what influents mate copying by adding thelevel of independent variables.The third part is experimental study. On the basis of study1and study2, thisstudy aims to explore how role models’ characters influents mate coping byTwo-factor experimental design.The results show that:(1) In the views of female college students in male mate choice, the mate’ qualityis the most important, and the resource is unimportant. There are significantdifferences in professional categories and grades.(2) The female college students show strong mate choice coping effects. The loveexperiences of targets influents mate college students’mate coping. The targets whohave one love experiment show more effects of mate coping.(3) The love experiment of subjects also affects the phenomenon of mate coping.Subjects of less love experiments show more effects of mate coping.(4) The quality and appearance characters of model roles affect the phenomenonof mate coping at the same time. The influence of appearance characters to matecoping effect is restricted by conditions of the quality, when the quality is high thehigh appearance attraction lead to more mate coping effect.
