In recent years, more and more excellent Chinese works have been translated and introduced to foreign countries,in which Chinese-English translation plays an important role. This project is also an attempt to introduce Chinese Tibetan culture to foreign readers.Under the organization of the School of Foreign Languages at Sichuan Normal University, the author of the report participates in the translation of Confusion of Civilization: The Way Out for Tibetan Education written by Tibetan professor Baden Nima,an educational specialist at Sichuan Normal University. The translator reflects on the translation material and summarizes the practice by writing this translation report. With a total of eight chapters,Confusion of Civilization: The Way Out for Tibetan Education was published by Sichuan Minzu Press, which is an important study of Chinese Tibetan culture and education. The translator is responsible for translating the Preface,Introduction,Table of Contents,Chapter I and section I of Chapter II.In addition to the social and cultural background of the Tibetan areas, the excerpts of the book in this translation project mainly talk about the research perspective, methods and contents, which provide the readers with rich information to further understand Tibetan culture and education. With plain language, there are many expressions with Tibetan cultural connotations, religious terms, philosophical words and long/complicated sentences. After thorough reading and analysis, the translator analyzes the features of the source text, and understands its informative function. In order to make readers of the target text fully understand the Tibetan culture which has rich cultural connotations, the translator uses several translation strategies and methods such as literal translation, free translation, amplification, omission, division and linear translation under the guidance of Eugene Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory.Since the excerpts belong to informative text, the translator follows the steps of analysis, transfer and restructuring to realize the informative function of the source text in order to convey the information of the source text to the target readers. The translator also pays attention to the reader's reading responses, tries to make the translation clear and natural, and conforms to the English expression habits so as to realize the communicative function.Via this translation practice, the translator realizes that in the process of translation, the translator should not be limited to the form of the source text.Instead, priority should be given to the meaning and the information of the source text so as to enable the readers of the target text to have similar reading effects.
