From the ancient to the early modern times, reclusive culture has going through thousands ofyears of evolution. Many new art and culture works appeared during that period of time, such asreclusive poetries in literature and painting subjects with reclusive thought in the field of paintingart. With the development of commodity economy, reclusive culture and the influence of literatipainting, the blue-and-white porcelain painted with the pattern of reclusive thought appeared in thelate Ming dynasty. In this paper, blue-and-white porcelain patterns with the expression of reclusivethought in the period of late Ming dynasty are considered as the main research object. Somerelated existing images and text data are analyzed using the methods of combining the reclusionand the theory of classical art to collect a large number of images, and applying the study ofhistory and images. At the same time, a systematic research on the performance, causes of thegeneration and the decorative features of the late Ming dynasty blue-and-white ceramics was madein this paper. Even though the social unrest happened seriously and the imperial kiln declined inTianqi and Chongzhen periods in the late Ming dynasty, folk kilin was developing rapidly andthrived with variety of patterns instead of imitation of the traditional imperial kiln. The literati andthe scholar-bureaucrat in the social unrest time expressed their desires for peaceful and reclusivelife by painting. The craftsmen of folk kiln blue-and-white painting draw lessons from literatipaintings which had the reclusive painting style and thus created unique decorative patterns whichwere different from both the imperial kiln blue-and-white patterns and the literati paintings. Theaim of the paper is to make a comprehensive research on the recluse theme of the blue-and-whitein the late Ming dynasty, and at the same time, discuss how the reclusive theme of blue-and-whiteceramic patterns influence the ceramic blue-and-white patters patterns in Qing dynasty.
