With China’s growing international status, contacts and cooperation with other countries, foreign countries need to know more about China. Premier Li’s press conference in2013held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs drew much attention from home and abroad press media. It included various topics in people’s livelihood, economy, international relation, and government institutional reform. Because of the features of Premier Li’s press conference itself, it does not only require interpreters’ deep knowledge of languages, political responsibility, listening ability, but also psychological quality. Interpreters need to express premier Li’s meaning correctly to audiences with limited time.Interpretive Theory, built in the process of interpreting practice, was proposed by Seleskovitch Interpretive Theory includes three main parts:comprehension, deverbalization, and re-expression(岳曼曼,2009:89). Seleskovitch thinks "interpreting is to express meaning, and to make meaning understood (Seleskovitch,1978a:8). The main purpose of Interpretive Theory is to interpret the meaning of source language. Therefore, in the process of interpreting, interpreter should express speaker’s meaning clearly, accurately to audiences, and interpreter’s expression should fit to the sense. This thesis analyzes the interpreting materials of premier Li’s press conference in2013from the perspective of Interpretive Theory, and then concludes the interpreting skills used in press conference. The author hopes that it can provide guide to interpreting learners.
