This report is based on the author’s participation in the mock conference "press conference after2013Two Sessions by Premier Li", held the interpretation class of2014MTI students of SNNU. It records and analyses the problems the author encountered during the process. Combined with the professional knowledge leaned in the two years’ post graduate phase, the author has made a comprehensive summarization of this simulate interpretation practice. With the improvement of China’s comprehensive state power, China’s international status has become higher and higher, therefore, the communication and exchanges between China and other countries have also become more and more frequent. International conference is one important platform for the communication and exchanges. Nowadays, International conference involves various forms, so that the language material of press conference tends to be professional, scientific, and comprehensive, which has asked a higher demand of professional skills, background knowledge, and cognitive competence for the interpreters.Press conference is an important branch of conference interpreting, whose interpreting quality will lead a direct influence to the whole effect and even to the political image of a country. Therefore, it exists a significant and practical meaning in exploring the interpretation strategy on press conference. The Interpretative Theory, originated from France, studies the theory and pedagogy of interpreting and non-textual translation since the1960s in France. It acclaims that interpreting is interpretive, which means it is an activity of explanation that the interpreter made of the original text with his own understanding and supplement knowledge. Because this theory derives directly from interpreting practices, so that it is quite different from linguistic school ones. It focuses on the conveyance of the decoded intended meaning (the sense) derived from the context in the course of interpreting, which comprises three stages-comprehension, decoding and reformulation. From the perspective of the Interpretive Theory, this interpretation report tries to restore the reality of the press conferences delivered by Premier Li Keqiang during the2013"Two Sessions" in a simulating situation. This paper is divided into four chapters. Chapter One is the description of the simulating interpretation task, which includes the responsibilities of the interpreter, background information of this interpretation task, and characteristics of this task; Chapter Two describes the simulating interpretation Process, which includes the preparation before interpretation, the interpretation process, the assessment and other relevant work after interpretation. During the process, the author also finds out seven practical problems to deal with which can be concluded as: problems in cultural disparities; problems in time limits; problems in incomplete sentences; problems in terminologies and idioms; problems in long sentences; problems in short sentences; problems in illogical sentences. In Chapter Three the author puts forward the interpreting strategies coping with these seven practical problems. Under the guidance of the Interpretive Theory and considering about the characteristics of press conference interpretation, seven strategies are proposed:replacement, omission, addition, annotation, segmentation, combination, logical readjustment. In this chapter the author tried to find out how did the interpreter applies Interpretive Theory and to further achieve expression of the sense. Chapter Four is the conclusion and the short comings of the report.
