A Study On English Interpreting Strategies Of Chinese Press Conference Under The Guidance Of Interpretive Theory

Since China entered the WTO, China has communicated with other countries in the world more frequently than ever before. When China has communicated with other countries, press conference is an important way in diplomacy affairs, which plays a significant role in the political, economic, and social stages. Interpreting plays a crucial role in press conference. The proper ways of using interpreting strategies will affect the quality of the press conference interpreting.In order to guarantee the quality of interpreting the press conference and to achieve the goal of complete expression of the meaning of source language, the strategies of the press conference are of great importance. Interpretive theory puts forward the standards of faithfulness of interpreting, which is in line with the standard of interpreting the press conference. Therefore, the interpretive theory can serve as a theoretical guide beneficial for the studies on the interpreting strategies of the press conference.Based on the Press Conference of the Eighteenth National Congress, this thesis studies strategies and ways for press conference interpreting in the perspective of the Interpretive Theory. This thesis discusses the interpreters should be interpreting faithfully to the target language from the perspective of interpretive theory, analyses the press conference interpreting combined with the features of the press conference and summaries the interpreting strategies of the press conference.The following conclusions are drawn from the analysis. In terms of semantics, we should fully understand the source language and target language, using semantic interpretation when we meet with political terminology. In terms of morphology, we should completely express the meaning of the source language. When we deal with complex sentences, we will use sentence structure reorganization and logical processing. In terms of pragmatics, we need to be faithful to the source language, using literal translation and free translation in proper way according to the interpreter’s own understanding.Interpretive theory can provide a meaningful guidance for the practice of press conference interpreting. It is hoped to give some guidance for interpreters in their interpreting practice, as well as some suggestions for further study in the field of interpreting.
