A Study Of Conference Interpreting Under The Guidance Of Interpretive Theory

With China’s rapid development, its position on the world stage is growing as well. The press conferences, function as a window of releasing the latest policy guidance, which are held after the NPC and CPPCC sessions every year, are attracting more and more participation of foreign medias. Nowadays, the audiences pay more attention to the performance of the conference interpreter. The interpretive theory, which is proposed by Danica Seleskovitch and her colleagues, is a theory that is used as the guidance of conference interpreting study. This theory has been well known for its unique interpreting procedures, namely understanding, de-verbalization and re-expression. And the idea that interpreting is the interpreting of the meaning is widely accepted in the training of interpreters. This thesis will take the interpretive theory as the theoretical guidance to analyze the interpreting examples of press conference held by Premier Li Keqiang after the2013NPC and CPPCC session, try to study the feasibility of the interpretive theory in guiding the interpretation of press conference. The other aim of this thesis is to discuss the practical skills such as reasonable anticipation, omission, supplementary of information and logical processing that can be applied to the press conference interpreting.
