Kierkegaard was known as the master of the trinity of existentialism,religion and psychoanalysis.in the history of western thought, he played a key role and linked the past with future as a bridge.Kierkegaard dedicated to how to become a true Christian,and to do this,we must rely on unwavering faith to across the abyss of fear.This paper focuses on the concept of Kierkegaard’s fear,and take a overall inspection on his religious thought.Firstly,this paper analyzes the causes of fear,and points out that it is a unique survival experience of individual human,it is a religious emotion which individual accesses to God.Secondly, it examines the meaning of the concept of fear and it’s classification,and the two strengthening states of the concept of fear are despair and sin.Thirdly,the only way to overcome the fear is the faith,and grasp of faith is not rely on rational but the leap made by one’s inner passion.Finally,re-examine the influence of Kierkegaard’s fear to theology,and mainly take the thought of Tillich and Jaspers as example to illustrate.
