A Study On The Strategies Of Political Conference Interpretation In Light Of Effort Models

As an important part of conference interpretation, political conferenceinterpretation plays a significant role in promoting national policies as well asinternational exchange and cooperation. Few interpreters are qualified for this taskbecause of the strict requirements. In order to complete political conferenceinterpretation, the interpreters must not only have the basic quality, but also getequipped with applicable interpreting strategies. The Effort Models, which are putforward by Professor Daniel Gile, are one of the most important interpreting strategies.So far, the theory has had a great impact on how to complete the interpretation tasksmoothly.The Effort Models are important for interpreters to analyze SimultaneousInterpretation and Consecutive Interpretation. With the application of Effort Modelson political conference interpretation, the interpreters will make a more rationalallocation of energy in the process of interpreting so as to achieve better results.Taking Consecutive Interpretation as the object, the thesis firstly reviews the literatureon political conference interpretation and discusses the features of the documents onpolitical conference from the perspectives of style, word-choice and sensitivity. Thesecond part introduces Professor Gile’s Effort Models and analyzes the reasons forunbalanced energy-distribution. In the third part, the author takes typical examplesand relevant interpretations from Premier Wen Jiabao’s and Minister Yang Jiechi’spress conferences and analyzes the possible strategies comprehensively in theapplication of Effort Models in listening, note-taking, memory and production. Andfinally, the author summaries the findings of the study and makes practicalsuggestions.In China, there are few materials for political conference interpretation. Thecreative point of this thesis lies in its combination of political consecutive conferenceinterpretation with Effort Models. The author hopes that the study on politicalconference interpretation could be used as references for future learners. It can notonly help improve the interpreters’ ability, but also promote exchanges in the world.
