In the context of closer and more frequent contacts among all countries in the world, interpreters generally need to possess an adequate knowledge of international and domestic politics in order to come up with competent delivery when they are performing such interpreting tasks. Therefore,it is imperative to organize the Model United Nations(MUN)Conference to orient the interpreters and provide them with the opportunity of acquiring knowledge of international politics. This paper is the practice report on English to Chinese Simultaneous Interpreting without texts(E-C SI without texts). This paper describes the SI task undertaken by the author for the China's delegate at MUN conference on June 11 th,2017,themed “The North Korea Nuclear Issue”.The author adopts the general speeches of the China' s delegate as corpus to analyze the interpreting task as well as the coping strategies of the author in fulfilling this task. This report is composed of five chapters.Chapter One is an introduction to the social background of the whole task;Chapter Two is the task description, introducing the task background and the requirements from the entrusting party;Chapter Three is the interpreting process, which is divided into pre-interpreting phase, interpreting phase and post-interpreting phase.Guided by “Gile's Effort Models”,the author gives a detailed description of her work and the contents of each phase in this chapter;Chapter Four focusing on case analysis,in this chapter, the author presents parts of typical examples to conduct a detailed analysis—the importance of the background knowledge;the application of interpreting principles and the disturbance in the course of performing the SI task as well as the solution to intensive information of the emergent topic.Chapter Five is the author's reflections on the whole interpreting process and summarizes the unresolved problems of this task and shares her experience of this interpreting process.Through task description and case analysis, the author comes to the following conclusion: 1.The adequacy of preparation in the pre-interpreting phase, including background knowledge and glossary,is of great importance to the quality control of simultaneous interpretation, and it can ease the burden of the interpreter;2.The interpreters should follow the interpreting principles flexibly and adopt the coping strategy of “syntactic linearity, repetition, less shift and anticipation” to lessen the efforts on memorizing and analyzing for a better delivery;3.Intensive information of the emergent topic would increase theburden of short-memory,the interpreter should master the key information, use omission of secondary information and segmentation of long sentences so as to balance her energy of short-term memory and analysis.4.When coping with the interference in the process of interpretation, the interpreters should stay calm, for nervousness and distraction by the audience response will cause a great pressure on the interpreter, affecting negatively the performance of the SI task.Through this task, the author can put the learnt knowledge into practice in a better way, accumulate tentative experience, and master the coping strategies used during the courses of the task. The author hopes to take this SI task as precedence, and summarize experience and problems all good in time, thus she could undertake more interpreting tasks in the future, and she can hone the interpreting skills and improve professionalism. Also, the author wishes to offer other interpreters some food for thought in the course of performing interpreting tasks.
