Chen Ruoxi moves around China and abroad all her life. Her literary lifebecomes thicker and deeper by every migration. Growing up between eastern andwestern cultures and lived experience stridden over the time and space, which bringChen Ruoxi with wider vision. She reflects on the repression of love under traditionalculture by critical position. She considers modern Western sexual freedom with askeptical assessment. At the same time, positively, she wants to find out an “ideal”mode of love and marriage from historical tradition and current situation. Her creationis not limited in the world of love and sensation but integrated broader social concernsinto the love and marriage stories. She insists on the responsibility and assumption ofan intellectual by the “persist and unrepentant” belief while fulfills her life pursuitthrough literary creation. In this thesis, we will treat love and marriage themes inChen Ruoxi’s novels as the research subject, in order to dig deeper into the reflectionto love, the metaphor to politics and the concern to society.The whole paper is made up of three chapters:The first chapter analyzes Chen Ruoxi’s reflection of sociocultural factor behindthe unhappy marriage that under the historical tradition and current situation throughthree unhappy marriage mode which are unhappy marriage restricted by traditionalviews, love and sensations repressed in writings of the Cultural Revolution, exoticlove and marriage under the impact of cultures.The second chapter attempts to find out Chen’s “Ideal” male and female roles bythe canalization of self-consciousness awakened Femininity image and negativeMasculine image, thereby to interpret “The Peach Blossom Spring” like marriageintegrated between the traditional and modern views. The third chapter tends to decode dialectical relation between love and marriagenarration and political writing in love and marriage stories. The political prospectwriting between both sides of the Straits through the love alternative between maleand female are analyzed in this part. And Chen’s attention and think of politics andsociety under the love and marriage mode is discussed also.
