| With the globalization of mass media, news translation springs up likemushrooms and people pay more attention to news translation. News translation is thebridge between different countries, and also influences the friendship betweendifferent countries. Collectively speaking, news translation has a far-reachinginfluence.English news and Chinese news have respective features on lexical level andsentential level. Similarities and differences exist between Chinese news and Englishnews. Numerous scholars from home and abroad have done researches on newstranslation by applying different news translation theories into news translation study,such as Relevance Theory, Functional Theory, Context Theory, etc, while theconnection between these theories and news translation is relatively week. Therefore,the author attempts to apply Constructivist translatology into news translation.In the beginning of21stcentury, with the inspiration from Constructivism,Professor Lv Jun put forward Constructivist translatology. Constructivist translatologyis developed in the process of meliorating the previous translationparadigms—Structuralism and Deconstruction. The philosophical foundation ofConstructivist translatology is practical philosophy; the epistemological foundation ofConstructivist translatology is generalized epistemology; the linguistic foundation ofConstructivist translatology is Speech Act Theory. Constructivist translatology treatstranslation as a dialogue between the writer and translator, advocates translative ethicsas well as relativism, and regards language as a media of communication. All thefeatures of Constructivist translatology correspond with that of news translation.Therefore, Constructivist translatology can be applied into news translation.In order to make the argument more convincing, the author carries outquantitative study. The author selects138items of English news reports fromEconomist, Financial Times, BBC and VOA respectively, followed by its translatedversion. They are annotated from lexical level, sentential level and cultural level,according to different translation strategies. Ultimately, the author gets the data ofeach translation strategies and the proportion. The data research demonstrates thefeasibility of Constructivist translatology in news translation. Through data analysis and deduction, the author gets the translation principlesand strategies in news translation under Constructivist translatology, as well as theenlightenment of Constructivist translatology on the translators. The news translationprinciples under Constructivist translatology are compliance with objectiveknowledge; rationality of comprehension and acceptability; language style of theoriginal text. The translation strategies are generally perceived from three levels:lexical level; sentential level; cultural level. On lexical level, the prominent translationstrategies are: conversion; preposition of modifier; idiomatic translation. On sententiallevel, the major translation strategies are: division; synthesis; voice change. Oncultural level, the cardinal translation strategies are: literal translation; transliteration;free translation. Besides, Constructivist translatology bring translation from languagelevel to social level. Thus, the translation is more acceptable and more readable, and ithas an instructing role in the translation practice. |
