Translation Of Gwrs Based On Functional Equivalence

With the continuous improvement of comprehensive national power and steady of international status,more and more focuses gathered on China. China has been a leader position, with much interest in herpolitical perfection and economic development. Annually Government Work Reports reviewed theworking achievement in the past year and arranged the working plan in next year as an authoritativedocument for learning China’s national conditions.Therefore, the translation of Government Work Reports has become an important role for theforeigners. More people will learn about China and her development from the government document, sothe translation of Government Work Reports has become popular. From this view, the authoritativetranslation version as study content of scholars has the reliability.This paper will discuss the Nida’s functional equivalent theory, analyze the translation of GovernmentWork Reports from lexical and syntactic levels and utilize the cases in Government Work Reports. In theprocess of discussion, adopting observation method and enumeration method, the living examples can statethe application under the guide of functional equivalence of the translation in the reports clearly. Andafter the analysis and research, basing on the cases of nonequivalence to study again, at the same time, theauthor put forward the other translation methods to solve these problems, which is also the new point andaddition of this study, comparing with other theses.The paper has five chapters. First, the author introduced the background and content, state ofdevelopment and related studies at home and abroad of the functional equivalence theory, research methods,the scope of materials, prospective research effects and gave a whole statement. Then, the authordiscussed the characteristics of the reports including literary form, and the relational research in the reportof latest years. Based on this theory, linking the theory and the application, the author offered the typicalexamples from2010to2012reports, and pointed out the principles about the translation process, which canbe concluded as accuracy, intelligibility, and naturalness. After that, at the end of analyzing equivalence,how to deal with nonequivalence was proposed including several methods. Finally, in conclusion part ofthis paper, the mentioned place need to be improved is necessary, at the same time; I wish the content of this paper has certain help to future readers.The research proved that, under the guide of theory the expression of original and target text becamemore appropriate and accordant, which gave much better understanding and reached the purpose oftranslation texts. Except the function equivalence, the study applied some other translation methods. Itfollows that as for this type of Government Work Reports the application of functional equivalence theoryis feasible for the translation. Meanwhile, the process expanded the scope of translation field.
