The Study Of Character-Words Of Pingxiang Dialect

The study on Character-Words of dialect is a kind of contrastive study on dialect of Modern Chinese, which can provide a comparatively feasible and scientific complementary foundation, making up for the deficiency of the only standard of phonetics to divide Chinese dialect areas.Under the guideline of Li Rulong’s theory of Character-Words of dialect, this thesis also makes some supplements to it. The vocabulary of Pingxiang dialect is summarized based on the dictionary of Pingxiang dialect, and other words are collected through relevant treatises. Having strictly compared with two famous dictionaries about Chinese dialect, we finally extract the character-words of Pingxiang dialect,179of which were individual character-words and555of which were relational charater-words.This thesis can be divided into four parts.In the first part, we introduce the geographical and historical situation of Pingxiang, the details of Pingxiang dialect and the research overview about it. We also discusse the origin, concret content and research results of the Character-Words theory and introduce the ideas, methods, purposes and significance of this paper.In the second part, the thesis introduces some general methods to filtrate character-words and gives a brief introduction on the method to get individual character-words and relational character words of Pingxiang dialect. A verification is made to check the result.In the third part, the individual character-words of Pingxiang dialect are studied synchronically and diachronically. In diachronic term, the character-words are classified into inherited words, changed words and new words. In synchronic term, the character-words are discussed from the aspect of phonetic structure, part-of-speech, number of meanings, the relation between morpheme meaning and lexical meaning and word formation.In the last part, we examine the relationship among Pingxiang and other dialects based on relational character-words. According to the situation of overlapping among relational character-words of Pingxiang dialect and other dialect vocabulary, we reach a conclusion that Pingxiang dialect has a close relationship with southwest mandarin and Xiang dialect.
