| This is a translation practice report based on the English-Chinese translation of the fifth chapter of Cold War Orientalism: Asia in the Middlebrow Imagination,1945-1961. The source text is an informative text. The report explores important aspects in translating the informative text through analyzing the difficulties and solutions in the process of translating the source text. Some feasible methods are put forward to solve the problems of understanding the original text, the choice of the meanings of words as well as the translation of proper nouns and long sentences. The methods include reading the source text carefully, choosing the meanings of words according to the context, translating long sentences through sentence division and sentence reconstruction, which help convey the information of the source text effectively and make the target text easily understood. |
