An E-C Informative Text Translation Practice Report From The Perspective Of Text Type Theory

Since the beginning of the 21 st century,people's living standards have been greatly improved,and so have their diet standards.However,the rise in obesity in recent years has forced people to consider the health consequences of eating a lot of calories while enjoying their food.The accompanying “fitness craze” not only reflects people's urgent pursuit of health but also attracts the research interest of scholars at home and abroad.From four aspects of relaxing,eating,moving and sleeping,this book The 4 Pillar Plan expounds people's misunderstanding of medical care,as well as the causes of diseases such as muscular dystrophy and insomnia,and describes the correct methods and detailed steps to maintain a healthier and longer life.At the same time,it guides readers to think about whether measures need to be taken to adjust their physical conditions,and whether these measures are applied to their conditions.The translator extracts the third part of this book for English-Chinese translation practice and uses it as the material for writing the translation practice report.Text Type Theory is put forward by translation theorist Reiss and perfected by Newmark.They divide text types into expressive texts,informative texts and operative texts.Informative texts are featured by strong logic,paying attention to content rather than form,and mainly displaying facts,information,knowledge,and ideas,etc.The selected material “The 4 Pillar Plan” is a science book mainly based on informative text and involving medicine,sports,and health knowledge.The material selected by the translator is an informative text.However,Text Type Theory does not make a specific introduction to the translation principles of informative text,nor does it point out the translation methods that can be used.Because of these,the translator draws on the research experience of predecessors and studies the translation principles of informative texts by combining text fragments in Reiss' s and Newmark's books.After studying,the translator deduces and concludes that the translation principles of informative texts guided by Text Type Theory are“faithfulness,authenticity,integrity,and logicality”.To follow these translationprinciples,the translator makes a case study of the selected material from the micro level.That is to say,the translator studies the lexical translation of the selected material by employing translation methods such as conversion,deduction,and free translation.The methods of negation,inversion and embedding are used to study the syntactic translation of the selected material.The discourse translation of selected material is studied by means of various cohesive devices.
