With the rising of environment awareness in recent years,people have been attaching increasing importance to the effect of forest,the lung of the earth.The conversion of industrial timber from natural forest to plantation has been proposed around the world.Plantation and its study are attracting more and more attention.The translation of such texts,therefore,contributes to the introduction of scientific and technological knowledge of the field from outside China and the related translation studies will result in improvements of translation quality.This translation report is based on materials from chapters of Plantation Silviculture in Europe,whose text belongs to informative text according to the classification of text types.The core of informative text is the transfer of information.The translator(author of this report)primarily followed the translation principles of faithfulness and expressiveness,and mainly employed techniques for literal translation.The translator flexibly adopted various translation skills to solve the difficulties in the translation practice,such as the translation of terminology,the conversion of passive sentences,and the translation of long or complicated sentences,etc.These skills include lexical conversion,adjusting the sentence order and separating sentence.Based on the translation practice of Plantation Silviculture in Europe,the translation strategies of informative text with scientific and technological style are discussed in this report from word,sentence and discourse levels,hoping that other translators of the similar texts will pay attention to the style and specialty of texts and expressing habits of their target language.
