In terms of women’s writing in the new period literature, Chen Ran is quite special and unique. She walked on the edge of literature with maverick attitude and clean mind. Based on her own experience, Chen told all sorts of living circumstances that modern women were facing with bold description, exquisite lyric and flexible language. And Luce Irigaray, one of the French feminist criticism troikas in contemporary western literature, once proposed a famous concept of feminist criticism, namely parler-femme. She tried to revolt men’s writing hegemony and trigger women’s consciousness of self-writing. When Chen Ran met Irigaray, women’s writing met parler-femme, sparkle was bound to spit out. In other words, their encounter made interpretation possible.Based on feminist criticism theory, the paper systemically analyzes characteristics of parler-femme of Chen Ran’s novels. The introduction part first introduces the development of parler-femme, the interpretation and supplement made by scholars abroad and at home and summarizes the definition and characteristics of parler-femme. Besides, the thesis gives a brief introduction of Chen Ran and her novels, extracting the characteristics of parler-femme from her novels. Finally, literature review on current studies about parler-femme of Chen’s novels is presented in this part.With combination of Chen Ran’s novels, the body of the paper respectively discusses three main characteristics of parler-femme, namely, whisper, trivialness and privateness. Chapter one discusses the whisper in Chen’s novels. By analyzing women’s personal experience, private space and physical desire, this paper finds that whisper of Chen’s novels is the reflection of women’s life experience, the echo made from their private space and the facts of their body desire. Chapter two discusses the trivialness of Chen’s novels. By analyzing the common narrative ways of Chen’s novel, namely stream of consciousness narration, autobiographical and poetic narration, the paper proves that the trivialness is the free expression of women’s self-awareness, the strong need for self-narration and the unlimited pursuit of idyllic live. Chapter three explains the privateness of Chen Ran’s novels. By analyzing fantasy, uncanny images and mysticism of Chen’s novels, the paper points out that privateness of Chen’s novels is the obsession with fantasy world, the preference for uncanny images and the search of mysticism.In conclusion part, the paper summarizes that Chen Ran’s feminist writing and Irigaray’s feminist criticism are inter-permeated and complementary, based on which, the paper emphasizes the value and significance of characteristics of parler-femme of Chen Ran’s novels. The paper holds that the three main features of Chen’s novel demonstrate the breakthrough of traditional female writing. It is also a meaningful attempt to get rid of male discourse and an active pursuit of women’s unique writing paradigm.
