Chen Ran is one of the representatives of female writing in China in the 1990s, she is very focused on the female experience and psychological digging,playing out the psychological world of all kinds of women subconscious in the form of fragmentation, which demonstrating the richness of the color psychology of women. Chen Ran constructs female claustrophobic psychological world, but also highlights the performance of the modern women who have a sense of self-examination consciousness. She converts the feeling of character’s psychology into a poetic and philosophical expression to achieve the Awareness of individual lives of women and discover the true female self. From psychoanalytic research methods, I will analyze Chen Ran’s novels on the basis of predecessors’ researches, more deeply and more Systematically, discuss the reason and the reveal of claustrophobic psychological state in her novels, exploring the meaning of life in this life state.This thesis is divided into five parts. The first part is a brief introduction to the writer’s works. Combing and analyzing of the current research status, I introduce the origin and significance on this topic. The second part reflects claustrophobic spiritual qualities through the lonely character’s psychology and the dreary spatial environments. The third part explores the causes of the formation of claustrophobic temperament via three aspects:the growth experience during the life of the characters and the writer; the disappointment to both mixed-gender and same-gender; the burst of ideal self. A detailed analysis of the mental process includes the changeover from father complex to patricide, the attachment to the abandon about same-gender friendship, the narcissism to the inferiority. The fourth part is on the basis of the former three parts, to clarify that the plight of women thinking has risen to the plight of human thinking in her composition. This part discusses the significance of the rising from female subject levels to the human’s.Some of the limitations of her works are also involved. The fifth part is epilogue, discussing the significance and characteristics of Chen Ran’s novels from the value of literary history. The generalization and summarization are based on the views above the full paper.
