This is a translation report. This report introduces the translation project, including the background of the project, significance of the project, and layout of the report. It also introduces the source text, consisting of the main content of the source text, and the analysis of the source text. The author has encounted a lot of translation difficulties. Firstly, Kirchgaesser Industrieelektronik GmbH’s instructions manuals use many fixed technical terms, nominalization, compound words and non-finite verb form. Meanwhile, massive use of elliptical sentences, passive voice, imperative sentences and infinitive sentences appears in the instruction manuals. Last, intuitive diagrams and illustrations are shown in the instruction manuals. The author uses Newmark’s six functions of language and text type to resolve the difficulties. As "vocative text", instruction manuals target at readers instead of authors so as to convey the information of source text. Meanwhile, the translator should make the effct of translated text close to the source text, and explain the ambiguity in the source text during translation. The author utilizes the method of communicative translation, like amplification, omission, passive voicetranslation, senceten focus adjustment and shift from abstract to concrete, to translate the source text smoothly and clearly. The author has also learned lessons and discovered some unsolved issues.
