As trade between China and other countries has been increasing,more and more foreign products and advanced technologies find their way into the Chinese market.Thus,a large number of product manuals,including equipment manuals,need translating.Of course,it is of the utmost importance to ensure that they are well translated.This thesis is an academic report written on the basis of analysis of the translation of Garaventa Super-Trac TRE-52 Portable Wheelchair Lift Owner's Manual.Through research on relevant literature,the author worked out the principle for translation of the manual.First,this report states the background of the research,overviews relevant research,briefly explain the significance of the research and mentions the main ideas and the basic structure of the report.Next,the report briefly describes the linguistic features and the translation process of the manual.Then,though analysis of plenty of typical examples,the author illustrates and proves the feasibility of application of such translation techniques as addition of proper words,omission of superfluous words,conversion of word classes and conversion of the voice,etc.in process of translating the manual.Finally,the writer summarizes his findings and benefits,points out the limitations of the thesis and refers to the aspects to be further studied.The author highlights that strict adherence to the principles,flexible application of necessary translation techniques,honest and earnest attitude and repeated check and perfection of the version count a great deal and contribute greatly to the high quality of the version of the manual.This report is aimed at testing and verifying the feasibility of the principles and various techniques for translation of science and technology manuals so as to enlighten readers and translators of such texts and enhance their translation quality.
