Fan Tchunpi(1898-1986), is one of the Chinese most important but with specialidentity female artist in20th century. Also she was the first Chinese female student tostudy oil painting in France. Accompanied by the occurrence of Chinese modern"revolutionary art" trend of thought, Fan Tchunpi began to explore the “combinationof Chinese and Western painting style”, her oil painting combined the Chinese stylewith western, which has the purity and dignity of the western painting, also expressedthe strong implication of oriental culture. With political reason, Fan lived overseasafter1949with her art annihilated in history, the domestic art was not familiar withher art. Fan Tchunpi’s artistic career lasts for nearly70years, her strong creativeenergy, good aesthetic knowledge, brave art innovation spirit, creative approachwhich is loyal to the subject consciousness and the relentless pursuit of art, even in theface of adversity have not only ensure the quality of her art, but also contain deeplycultural significance.This article mainly studies Fan Tchunpi’s oil painting art from four chapters. Inthe first chapter, the article takes the background of Chinese craze for studying abroadin the20th century and the experience of Fan’s family in studying abroad, alsoconsidering the special political atmosphere of Fan Tchunpi’s life, systemic analysisher developing region and cultural background of oil painting art. In the secondchapter, the article deeply doing research on Fan Tchunpi’s oil painting art practiceexperience, analysis the basic rules of her changes in artistic creation style. FanTchunpi had a complex and hard life experience, including her art career. AlthoughFan’s “combination between Chinese and Western painting style” was experiencedconstant changes and dressing, but never stop. According to the artistic creation time,region, and the translation of styles, it can divided into three stages——theenlightenment period, exploration period and development phase of art creation. The first enlightenment period mainly includes Fan Tchunpi’s basic training of realisticskills of western painting and the art experience of “serving oriental cultural intowestern oil painting”; In the second period, Fan Tchunpi completed the explorationfrom the mere transplantation of Chinese and Western painting to the gradualmaturation of artistic language in communication with art association. The thirdperiod mainly discusses the Fan Tchunpi’s “combination of Chinese and Westernpainting style”art experience and the process of concept development when shesettled overseas, especially doing research on her creative ideas and the implication ofher paintings. The third chapter mainly has a deep analysis of Fan’s oil painting aboutpeople, landscapes and still lifes from the view of cultural and aesthetic, revealing theconception of artistic creation and rule.The fourth chapter of this article reveals theconnotation and cultural significance of Fan Tchunpi’s oil painting art from the angleof artistic development.The basic motivation for artistic development lies on fact that art should becharacterized by diverse cultural element, inclusiveness and uniqueness. By systemicanalysis, I hold the view that Fan Tchunpi’s oil painting experience is a valuableexploration of combination of Chinese and Western art style, her oil painting art takesan active and extensive role on cultural development, art creation and culturalcommunication.
