Zhanguo Ce Clique’s Acceptance Of Nietzsche’s Theory

In the1940s, it could be said that the Zhanguo Ce Clique was the most active literary group in accepting the Nietzsche’s theroy throughout the Chinese Contemporary Literature History.Its representative members such as Chen Quan and Lin Tongji not only did translation of Nietzsche’s works,but also composed papers and monographs on study of Nietzsche, accepted and disseminated Nietzsche’s thought. Combining with the prevailing social environment,they also use several important topics of Nietzsche’s theory:they put forword not only the "hero worship" based on the "Superman" philosophy of Nietzsche but also the "national consciousness" and the philosophy of the "force",leading to the "national literature movement" and "the literature of flourishing age";Inspired by "Dionysian spirit", the Zhanguo Ce Clique did some interpretation of three motif of literature——"Fear","Carnival",and "Piety".They agreed with a basic conception of history which was enlightend by Nietzsche’s"Eternal Recurrence":there was a repeat of the Warring States Period at that time.Furthermore, influence of Nietzsche’s Thoughts on the Zhanguo Ce Clique even exists in their writing career which shows in three way:the enlightening style,the philosophical poetic language, the meaningful symbolism.Chen quan is the model on the Zhanguo Ce Clique’s literary writing of Nietzsche’s doctrine.He always express Nietzsche’s thoughts through some words and talk of a person in his novel and play or insert his discussion in a Nietzschean manner. Chen Quan also moulded two types of character images of "Superman" to convey the "Superman" and "Will to Power" in his understanding.Nietzsche’s thoughts is a theory that uplift life. However,starting from a motivation of saving the nation from subjugation and ensuring its survival, the Zhanguo Ce Clique did not accept the Nietzsche’s thoughts as a Life philosophy.They choose to highlight the political nature of Nietzsche’s thoughts.Also, the character and research directions of its members were not in a same way which gives rise to some difference in accepting Nietzsche’s thoughts. In some way, the Zhanguo Ce Clique’s mentality of cultural salvation followed cultural criticism of Nietzsche.The Zhanguo Ce Clique has made a indelible contribution to the Chinese acceptance history of Nietzsche’s theory, which not only encourage the Anti-Japanese War. What’s more,reflecting on the traditional culture and the New Culture Movement of the Zhanguo Ce Clique has its own peculiarity. But, confined in the study,its main members were were short of profound understanding of political situation and had extreme nationalism, superficial interpretation of Nietzsche’s theory is hard to avoid.With the addiation of the impact of external ideology, the Zhanguo Ce Clique could not Get a positive evaluation throughout the Chinese Contemporary Literature History and they made the misnderstanding of Nietzsche’s doctrine in China deeper.
