When we talk about interpretation, it is no doubt to refer to the simultaneousinterpretation and consecutive interpretation. And it is easy to understand the meaningas for the latter one that it represents the interpretation after the speaker in a way of afew sentences or paragraphs. Compared with the consecutive interpretation, thesimultaneous one is much more difficult because the interpreter should startinterpreting just at the same time, the requirement to the interpreter is relativelyhigher than consecutive interpretation. But there is a very strict limitation about thetime for interpreting, which well represents the professional skills of the worker, forthe interpreter has to make it done within the limited time. Meanwhile the consecutivediffers a lot in the way of interpretation as it always refers to paragraphs which meanthere is so much information to memorize at a time. Then the consecutiveinterpretation is somehow difficult than the simultaneous one which does not requirethe ability to integrate the information and logic relations. So how to handle theproblem of short-term memory comes to the urgent task for the interpreter. And thetraining measures of note-taking has been more and more popular among all thelearners to make up the limitation of brain, the skills then as a result have been aimportant standard for the interpreters to achieve. As for this thesis I would like to putforward several principles for the training measures of note-taking after a long time ofstudy and practice of the English news. First, the notes should be represents as few aspossible to serve as assistance for the brain which take the major task for the interpretation. Second, the content of note-taking should be focused on the key wordsbut not everything—taking nouns but verbs, for we can guess what the verb is fromthe noun. Third, the elements of modifier should be stressed out and so does thetenses. Fourth, try to train the ability of recognizing the sense-groups and make theinterpretation more coherent. Finally, creating a series of marks for note-taking andmaking it understandable for the interpreters themselves. The thesis is divided into five parts. The first chapter is the task descriptionwhich aims at the introduction of the background of the task and the characteristics ofthe materials. The second chapter is the progress description which includes thepre-interpreting preparation, the arrangement of time and the emergency strategies.Next is the third chapter called the case analysis which talks about several strategiesof note-taking on the basis of an amount of practice serving as the major part to thewhole thesis. The last chapter is the summary&conclusion driven from the practiceabout the fruitful results and skills as well as the limitations of the study. I hope thisstudy will do some help in terms of the note-taking measures for interpretation.
