Nietzsche had been living during the second half of the19century;The developing of the Romantic music had been decline during that time. A newtheory, which is called Artist-metaphysics, has come to him. The theory ofArtist-metaphysics is based on the thoughts of Romantic music and the theory ofGreek’s tragedy. Nietzsche considered that music was the oldest art than others.Dionysus is the origin of the word, which is also one of the driving factors ofGreek’s tragedy and the symbol of the impulse instinct. Music should be graspedon the irrational side. Nietzsche considered that the function of music was providingthe metaphysical comfort, which encourage people to face the suffering of lifebravely, and make the value of life come true by music. The case of Nietzschecriticizing Wagner indicated that Nietzsche had an insight into the contradictionof the form and the principle, which existed in Romantic music deeply. Nietzsche’smusical aesthetics enlighten people on paying attention to their irrational thought,and he has foreseen the tendency of domination of popular art. His theory of Artist-metaphysics makes little influence in the era of musical practice.
