After decades of development, China has become the second largest economy and a rising power on the international stage. This achievement is closely related to the policy of reform and opening up. Zhu Rongji on the Record records the major government economic policies from1991to1997, a critical period of reform and opening up. It reflects the overall social situation during that time. Its translation can facilitate the international community to better learn about that part of China’s history and understand its current situation, therefore the quality of the translation is important.German functionalism is another important school of translation theories after Nida’s "functional equivalence" theory. It holds that the skopos of translation decides the strategies and that the translator has a very important role in the process. Nord combined the essence of theories of other functionalist scholars and proposed text-analysis model and the principle of function plus loyalty, which provide guidance for translation training and assessment. This thesis is based mainly on Nord’s theory and analyses Zhu Rongji on the Record1991-1997with her text-analysis model:to study the translation brief, the source text and to analyze and assess strategies adopted in the English version from different intratextual factors. To sum up, the translation is overall in line with the documentary translation and with the function plus loyalty principle and it realizes its informative function and expressive function. It provides a good example for future translation of similar texts.
