China’s financial market has been further opened to the outside world, boosting the transmission volume and speed of financial information. On the one hand, we are constantly receiving foreign information; on the other hand, we are introducing domestic situation to foreign investers. One of the difficulties of finantial translation lies in how to figure out the logical structure of sentences and how to segment sentences to make the translation smoother. The conjunction plays a vital role in sentence connection. Missing conjunctions in financial texts may hinder translators’ understanding. Quality of financial translation will definitely impact investor’s understanding of the information and we should attach importance to it.The mainstream view implies that due to difference between hypotaxis of English and parataxis of Chinese, translator should translate the implicit conjunctions in Chinese texts to present a clear logical structure. Although study on Chinese-to-English translation of conjuctions is relatively mature, study on certain kind of text in this field is still lacking and we should not treat different texts as the same. Moreover, study on translation of financial texts mainly focuses on financial terminologies, with only a few on the translation of conjunctions. Thus, this paper explores translation of financial texts on the perspective of conjunctions and may be helpful to future Chinese-to-English financial translation.Based on existing results of study and under the guidance of Functionalist Translation Theory, this paper explores the phenomenon of missing conjunctions and new translation skills by using both qualitative and quantitative methods and comparing the original text and translation version of prospectus of Agricultural Bank of China.
