Attentional And Memory Biases Towards Facial Related Words Among Woman With Facial Negative Physical Self

The facial negative physical self is refers to the individual who is not satisf ied with their appearance has negative cognitions, negative emotional experiences and corresponding behaviors about their appearance. Studies have found that wo men with the facial negative physical self have cognitive bias in recognizing diff erent attractive pictures. Negative self schema theory can be used to explain this phenomenon. Form the theory we know that body image disorders are caused b y the distortions of physical and negative self schemas, when the weight words of body, food and other schema related information occurs, the schema will auto matically be actived, the schema related information will be recognized easily. Pe ople have schema can selective attention and storage the schema related informat ion at different stage of information processing. The women with the facial nega tive physical self have the appearance of negative schema, so it’s easily for thes e women to recognize the schema consistency information. It will appear the cog nitive processing bias. In the visual field, the bias is confirmed, it is no clear w hether these biases exist in the auditory domain. So this study used four experim ents to investigate whether theses biases do exist in women with facial negative physical self when processing the facial related information.A dichotic listening embedded experiment was used in experiment1, to expl ore subject’s detective number when they heard the words form two ear, in the meanwhile they have to repeat the attended ear’s neutral prose, neglect the unatt ended ear’s neutral prose. It found that all women can detected more negative w ords in the unattended ear. A dichotic listening interference experiment was used in experiment2, women was required to repeat the neutral prose in attended ear and neglect the words in the unattended ear. There are three types of words in the unattended ear, including positive facial words, negative facial words and neutral words. In the meanwhile they have to respond to visual probes in the middle of computer screen. repeating error and the probe reaction time will be r ecorded. Results show that:the experimental group make more errors in repeat t he prose; all of the subjects making more errors when they distracted by the ne gative facial words than other conditions; we also found there is less probe react ion time when women distracted by the positive facial words than neutral words. Form the two experiment we infer that women are all have attentional biases t o negative facial words, there is no difference between women with facial negati ve physical self and ordinary women.In Experiment3, we used auditory recognition paradigm, explore the facial negative physical self women’s memory biases on facial related words. we found that the correct rate of judging the newly words are higher than judging the ol d words; To old words, the correct rate of judging positive facial words are hig her than judging negative facial words, the correct rate of negative facial words are higher than the neutral words; To newly words, the correct rate of neutral w ords are higher than negative facial words, negative facial words’correct rate are higher than positive facial words. In Experiment4, we used visual recognition paradigm, explore the facial negative physical self women’s memory biases on fa cial related words. we found that, all subjects’negative facial words correct rate is higher than positive facial words, all subjects’positive facial words correct ra te is higher than neutral words; the accuracy of newly words is higher than old words; To old words, the correct rate of negative facial words are higher than n eutral words, the correct rate of positive facial words are higher than neutral wo rds; To newly words, the correct rate of neutral words are higher than negative facial words, the correct rate of negative facial words are higher than the positive fa cial words. From experiment3and experiment4, we conclude that, all subjects hav e memory biases to negative facial related words, and there is no difference between the women with negative facial physical self and the ordinary women.This study illustrate auditory attentional and memory biases towards facial re lated words in women with the appearance of negative physical self, it found th at women with the appearance of negative physical self have cognitive bias to n egative facial related words, but there is no difference between the women with the appearance of negative physical self and the ordinary women...
