Auditory Attentional Bias To Body-related Information Among The Female With Fat Negative Physical Self

The negative physical self means individuals are not satisfied with their bodies,thus negative cognition,negative emotion experience and corresponding behavior regulation are produced.And for fat negative physical self,it implies negative cognition,emotion and behavior which are brought about because individuals think they're too fat.According to ego schema theory,the negative physical self individuals is highly susceptible to related stimulation about themselves.When related stimulation about bodies and food is present to the fat negative physical self individuals or patients suffering from eating disorders,it ean lead to automatic processing about such information in the cognitive process.It processes more precisely than neutral information and occupies more attentional resource.It behaves in biases of selective attention,memories and recollections from different process stages.Most of past studies presented stimulative material with visual forms,however,hearing is also one of main sensory channels in our life.The fat negative physical self individuals come into contact with more auditory information about figures,yet they study less about figures in auditory information processing.This research used Self-made Words Screening Questionnaire and 30 college students evaluated with degree of association between fatness and thinness,Pleasantness,arousal and familiarity of words.Finally they chose every 10 words of fatness,thinness and home as word material of formal experiment and then made mono-channel auditory stimulation material with words by recording.In formal experiment,it introduced NPSS-F(Chen,Jackson,Huang,2006)to screen out the control group of 20 subjects who got high marks of fat negative physical self and the control group of 20 subjects who got low marks of fat negative physical self.It used the recordings of fat words,thin words and home words as auditory stimuli,and used gratings(vertical and incline)as visual stimuli.Subjects' task was to ignore sonic stimulation and press the button when inclined grating showed up that followed.The research explores the concerned behavior of auditory information processing and neural mechanisms about figures among the female university students of fat negative physical self with event-related potentials(ERP)technique.The result shows that for the female university students of fat negative physical self,after hearing fat words,they induce higher amplitude of N2ac(220?280ms)than home words.This illustrates they showed attention bias to fat words that accorded with characteristics of their own.Maybe it's because negative physical self schema exists in fat negative physical self individuals.It considers fat words as stimulation of a threat and processes them automatically.For normal subjects,after hearing thin words,they induce higher amplitude of N2ac(220?280ms)than fat words and home word.This indicates that for normal subjects,thin words accord with themselves better and more attentional resources are devoted.
