The story of Xu Fu’s east voyage is widely spread in the folk. Since ancient times,numerous scholars and men of letters, at home and abroad, have attached great importance tothe study of Xu Fu’s story, however, most of the present studies are based on the viewpoint ofhistory and folklore, involving history, culture, medicine,astronomy,geography,shipbuilding,smelting, navigation, folk custom, archaeology, national relation and nongovernmentalrelation,etc. Few studies has been made from the perspective of literature and the studies ofancient and literary works themed Xu Fu’s east voyage in many treatises and journal articlesare not systemic.The discussion on Xu Fu as the transmitter of maritime civilization and thespokesman of Qi culture in some papers is lack of entirety and depth. By reviewing documentliteratures concerning Xu Fu’s story, this paper will have an in-depth survey from theperspective of aesthetic culture psychology based the superficial literature image and willstudy on the spiritual core of Jiaodong culture and Qi culture by literary image reconstitution.From the viewpoint of regional cultural development and the popularity of regional culturaldevelopment and the blooming of tourism, some ideas and expectations concerning theprospect of Xu Fu’s story are given in this paper. This paper is divided into five parts:The foreword gives a general introduction of the background, significance, home andabroad research status and research methods of this project.Chapter one introduces Xu Fu’sstory from the viewpoint of historical facts and oral legend in the folk and highlights theparticularity of the event by demonstrating from history records, various folk legends andwide distribution of historical sites. In chapter two,the image of Xu Fu in history records,legends and poetry works is interpreted and Xu Fu’s image is analyzed concretely andideologically. Chapter three analyzes Xu Fu’s image in contemporary literary and artisticworks in terms of the guardian of culture and ideology, the source of spiritual value and thespokesman of Qi culture. Chapter four mainly analyzes the evolution of Xu Fu’s image inliterary works and the “replacement”of the literary prototype in evolution and furtherconducts analysis on the causes of the replacement and its influence on image creation. Thelast chapter focuses on the industrialization of Xu Fu’s image in which the development statusof Xu Fu’s east voyage as cultural resource, reconstitution of Xu Fu’s image in regionalculture and the construction and improvement of Xu Fu cultural chain are discussed and expectations concerning the prospect of Xu Fu’s story as cultural resource are given.
