Absolute frame of reference refers to using the salient features of the environment (suchas the sun and the earth’s magnetic field) as reference perceptual processing when peoplerecognize the spatial relationship between the object and the object. And representatives of thelocation word are East, South, West and North. Because of children in north of QinlingMountains-Huaihe River Line are more adept at using the absolute frame of reference, so wechoose the Northern children as research subjects to study the characteristics and laws ofdevelopment of the spatial absolute reference frame. The research on absolute reference framenot only make up the children’s cognitive development research gaps, but also design alooking orientation experiment to explore the initially generated age of absolute referenceframe. There are eight ages of4-11year-old northern children in the research. They are totally240children from Yantai City of Shandong Province and Meihekou City of Jilin Province. The method of research includes survey and experiment. Survey uses interview on4-11year-old children in northern, and mainly studies the development of the standard of absolutereference frame; the differences in development between east, south, west, north; and theoverall development of the absolute reference frame. Survey is divided into four parts:(1) Todetermine the direction of the rising sun;(2) To master the location words "East""South""West""North";(3) To identify the direction of absolute reference frame. Experiment is inoutdoor situations and mainly consists of two parts:(1) A looking orientation experiment toexplore the initially generated age of absolute reference frame on4-7year-old northernchildren;(2) An asking directions experiment to explore the application of absolute referenceframe on8-11year-old northern children. The results show that:(1) In the development of the absolute reference frame standard: In the development ofan absolute reference frame of reference in:①With age, northern children gradually masterthe standard of absolute reference frame;②8-year-old is the developmental leap period ofreference standard;③From the age of9, northern children have mastered the absolutereference frame standard.(2) In the development of absolute reference frame:①With age, the absolute reference frame gradually developed;②From the age of9, northern children have generatedthe absolute frame of reference;③Absolute reference frame shows a fast-slow-fastdevelopment trend,7-8years old stage and9-10years old stage are the developmental leapperiod of absolute reference frame;④10-year-olds have formed an absolute frame ofreference;⑤10-11years old stage is the developmental leap period of absolute referenceframe in application.(3)Absolute frame of reference generates in the East-West direction earlier than in theSouth-North direction.(4)The looking orientation experiment finds the initially generated age of absolutereference frame at7year-old, and it’s earlier than in other experiment.
