In this paper, the research content is the eating verbs. Firstly, the concept and scope of theeating verbs has been defined through consulting relevant information. There are “eating”meaning of the verbs mentioned in the text is those activities of mouth cause entity of thefood or non-food in part or as a whole disappears. Since ancient time, eating verbs have beenactive in the Chinese, so the number of eating verbs is considerable. After looking up “Originof Chinese Characters”,“Annotation of Origin of Chinese Character”,“Ancient Chinesecharacters commonly used dictionary”,“the Han Chinese Dictionary”and other relevantbooks, combined with the above-mentioned standard,it summarized verb.Secondly, the eating verbs is classified and analyzed from different aspects. As the meaningof the word, according to the way of eating (taste-bite-chew-swallow), characteristics ofobject (solid or liquid) and the eating object (whether they eat by themselves), the eatingverbs can be classified into seven categories. The eating verbs is classified into three typeswhich are ancient Chinese, Mandarine, the dialect. Usage of eating verbs in different type ofwriting is another way to classified the eating verbs. Also from the structural features ofwords,grammatical function, the original meaning and extended meaning classified andanalyze63verbs.Finally, proposing the strategies of teaching Chinese as a foreign language is based on theanalysis of eating verbs from different aspects. First is not to ignore or underestimate theculture teaching in the process of the eating verbs teaching. Vocabulary teaching should becombined culture teaching, so that it will help students comprehend Chinese traditionalculture better. Second is proposing corresponding teaching methods and illustrating it,including method of contact, method of intuition, method of analogy, method of using the oldknowledge to guide the new knowledge, method of discrimination. And pointing out theteaching strategies of “chi shi tang”(eating in the cafeteria) kind of verb-object structure.
