A Study On The Musicalization Of Chi-mo Hsu’s Poems

It’s a compelling fact that Chi-mo Hsu’s poems were largely set to music among literary circles and music world. Lots of literary scholars were aware of the relevance between the rhyming beauty in Hsu’s poems and music. Substantial results on the musicality and musical beauty of Hsu’s poems have been achieved, in which the relevance exists between the poems and the lyrics. There are also many music researchers study on Hsu’s poems in songs from the perspective of music analysis and performance. How about the whole picture with the musicalization of Chi-mo Hsu’s poems? And what is the internal mechanism of Hsu poems’music conversion? That is exactly what we can probe based on the relevance to the transformation from poem to music.The introduction part mainly introduces the research status for the musicalization of Chi-mo Hsu’s poems and the writing causes of this thesis. The first part process from the periphery, explores the close relationship among Chi-mo Hsu himself, his poems and the music. The analysis launched with two aspects:"echo" and "originality" according to the documentation which show Hsu’s view on music, after the introduction of how Chinese and western music made influence on Chi-mo Hsu. The second part focus on Hsu’s poems in the forms of music:Firstly, an overall understanding of the song conversions from Hsu’s poems, with an eye to the better-off relationship between Hsu’s poems and music; Secondly, striving to fully present the status of Chi-mo Hsu poems’ musicalization and its prevalence degree; At last, a summary about the characteristics in text of Hsu’s poems in the form of music. The third part will back to the core issue, which is not only the emphasis, but also the difficulty of this article:from the two aspects, the direct conversion from poem to music and the indirect conversion of lyrics based on the poem, to explore the internal mechanism of Hsu poems’ music conversion. That is the Emotionality and musicality of Hsu’s poems. The conclusion points out the significance of Hsu poems’musicalization in the history of music and Chinese modern and contemporary poetry. Meanwhile, combination of Chinese modern and contemporary poetry and music, from the perspective of the relevance between poetry and music is prospected.
