A Study Of The Epitaph Of "Yelu Chang Yun" In The Khitan Large Script

Khitan Large Script "The Epitaph of Yelu Chang Yun "(1084) was been found in a stolen tomb of Liao dynasty near Xiaowujiazi Hui Autonomous Town by the heritage management staff of Yuanbaoshan District, Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia In August2000. There are30lines, about878blogs in the Epitaph. The Epitaph, which engraved neat and well preserved, is a good product phase in the inscriptions of the characters handed down. The tomb owner Yelu Chang Yun is the fifth-generation descendants of Yelu Lage who is the brother of Taizu Emperor of Liao Dynasty. It’s preserved in heritage management centre in Yuanbaoshan District, Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia. Previously, Many researchers have made a fruitful research on the epitaphs and put forward a lot of useful insights. However, due to the limited interpretation level of large script, the vast majority of words have not been deciphered. Based on the previous studies, The author of this paper carried a comprehensive and systematic study on the epitaph in order to make it more easier to read.The electronic recording and explanation of the epitaphs were completed through compare the font in different copies and rubbings. After went to inspect the physical collection and checked the font, a more reliable manuscripts and the Collation have been finished. On this basis, through extensively absorbing the results of previous studies, referencing the relevant material, focusing on the Khitan Large Script "The Epitaph of Yelii Chang Yun " and using a variety of Khitan Large and Small Script materials. I tested the conclusions of previous studies and put forward own interpretation of sound and meaning in several Large Script. We used the person’s name "Ba Shi Wu" as a cluel to uncover the mystery why chimaster’s genrations monumentalized for him after he had died22years. At the same time, the family pedigree of Yelu Chang Yun has been sort out by referring all kinds of literature.The author thinks that (?) and (?) represent the tomb owner’s eldest son "Ji"and grandson"Dulai".(?) and (?) respectively express name of "Tulibu" and "Woduwanwumo". The Khitan Large Script also have-t,-k letters which recording entering rhyme, That (?) and (?) mark-t rhyme, then田mark-K rhyme.(?)皇帝as "Tianjin emperor",(?)as "Xi states",(?) as "grandson." The interpretation of the main outcomes have some academic value to the epitaph owner’s family lineage refinement, the raising of interpretation level and the research on contemporary Chinese phonology.
