Schema is a term frequently used in psychology and cognitive linguistics, whichmeans “an active organization of past reactions, or of past experience, which must alwaysbe supposed to be operating in any well-adapted response.”(Bartlett,1932:201)In this thesis, the author tries to introduce schema theory to analyze the process ofinterpreting, to ease the burden of listening and understanding of interpreter by formingand using schema theory to understand and predict the content. I take the2014IndianPrime Minister’s Press Conference as an example to demonstrate how each kind of schemahelps interpreting.The thesis consists of four parts. The first part briefly introduces the case study,including the background of the case and the related theories in the study. In the secondpart, the author introduces the steps of the case study, the difficulties which need to besolved and the innovations of the thesis. The third part analyzes the use of schema theory,three major schemata are discussed in this part, including linguistic, content and style. Thelast part concludes the case study and points out that schema is a very personalized conceptand varies from person to person, however, the case study can be taken as a reference.
