The Analysis Of The Application Of Schema Theory In The Phrase Of Interpreting

Nowadays, the concept of global village is widely accepted. The internationalcommunication all over the world is prosperous. Since it is still impossible for machineryequipment to provide qualified translation service, as a necessary means of interculturalcommunication, the researches on interpreting have raised more and more concern.Interpreting, as a tool bridging divergent cultures, has very high demand for speechcomprehension since its complexity of concerning the comprehension and conversion of atleast two languages. Schema Theory mainly conveys the function that the construction ofbackground knowledge has in the process of comprehension. In this paper, the authorattempts to explore the different function of schema theory in key steps of interpreting process.The research will enable us to do more interdisciplinary study and give the interpreters someenlightenment in the process of interpreting.The paper is composed of four parts. In the introduction, the author explains thebackground, the significance as well as the theoretical framework of the research. ChapterOne mainly concerns the literature review of previous studies. Chapter Two is the body of thepaper. The author elaborates schema theory by introducing three main types of schema. At thesame time, the author analyzes the role schemata play in the process of the three key steps ofinterpreting process: comprehension, deverbalization as well as reproduction with theassistance the bilingual material of former prime minister Wen Jiabao’s press conference. Thelast part is the conclusion of this paper. Throughout the analysis conducted in the paper, theauthor states the importance of Schema Theory in the process of interpreting and put forwardthe implication and the limitation of the research. The research shows that in the process ofinterpreting, Schema Theory could help interpreters forecast the content, reduce pressure,save time and so on. Schema Theory plays a significant role in the process of interpreting.The phase of interpreting can be seen as the procedure of applying schema theory.
