E-C Translation Strategies For Arbitration Documents From The Perspective Of Functional Equivalence Theory

With the trend of economic globalization, arbitration has become a very regular wayto deal with various disputes. When there is a case of arbitration, a related arbitrationinstitution will make case-related documents according to relevant rules and regulations,and all these documents have legal effect and are collectively referred to as arbitrationdocuments. As these documents are a crucial part of arbitration, the translation work ofarbitration documents is also necessary and increasingly important, especially for thearbitration concerning foreign affairs. Arbitration documents, which belong to legaldocuments, consist of arbitration notice, arbitration request and arbitration award, etc.,featuring validity, normalization and enforceability. Besides that, arbitration documentshave some significant features in terms of lexical level,syntactic level and discourselevel.Therefore, all translators of arbitration documents, especially English-Chinesetranslation, need to have a good command of the characteristics of arbitration documents.This thesis, from the perspective of Functional Equivalence Theory, with the combinationof arbitration documents’ lexical and syntactical characteristics, discusses translationprinciples and strategies for arbitration documents.
