With the economic globalization and China’s ever-deepening reform and openingup,there have emerged many platforms and opportunities for China to exchange with the outside world.More and more foreign companies choose to trade with China.If foreign brands are about to access China’s domestic market,they will be required to entrust trademark agencies to register trademarks in the country and to obtain trademark exclusive rights,otherwise they will not be protected by law.Therefore,the translation of legal documents related to trademark agents plays a pivotal role in the age of knowledge economy.Unfortunately,as a new comer in international trade,China has not been long engaged in the translation of legal documents,and documents related to trademark rights in intellectual property are even rarer.Translation of the Trademark document is a direct reflection of our country’s judicial system,which facilitates the outside world to have better understanding of China’s relevant laws and rules.This article explores the translation skills of legal documents of trademark from the perspective of functional equivalence with the help of parallel texts,retrieval tools and other methods,and figures out the solutions to the problems in this particular type of translation,with a view to providing reference materials for the future translation of similar legal texts.Many scholars have studied the features of different legal-text types and proposed various legal English translation strategies.However,there are few translation-strategy studies about the Chinese to English translation of the trademark documents.Therefore,the author addresses the necessity to analyze and study the main problems in the Chinese-English translation for this type of legal documents.This report aims at analyzing the translation skills of the trademark documents from both the lexical and syntactic levels for offering reference in the trademark legal translation. |
