Consecutive interpretation is a variation of oral translation. Although, compared to the other form of translation—written translation, interpretation has a longer history, the development of interpretation studies is not as advanced as that of written translation. However, the study of interpretation has also made progress with the development of ages. After the four stages of interpretation studies—pre-research period, experimental psychology period, practitioner’s period and renewal period, it has now stepped into a multi-disciplinary period when the study perspectives are more diversified.Neurolinguistics is a modern interdisciplinary subject. It has assimilated ideas and theories from linguistics, neurology and psychology. Neurolinguistics studies the nervous mechanism of language acquisition, production and understanding, etc. In the present day, the focus of linguistic study gradually shifts from the study of language activities to the study of language faculties. Neurolinguistics is an outcome of this trend and represents a leading aspect of modern linguistic studies. With the core content of consecutive interpretation—information as its thread, the present thesis studies the nervous process of the participants of consecutive interpretation throughout the transmission process of information. Focusing on the transmission efficiency of information in consecutive interpretation from the perspective of neurolinguistics, the author proposes several measures for improving the efficiency and quality of consecutive interpretation on the basis of a study of the process of consecutive interpretation from neurolinguistic perspective.
