"Literature For Heart"-the Study Of Liu Xizai’s Heart Ontology Literary Thoughts

Liu Xizai was a famous scholar, literary and educator in the late Qing Dynasty. Hisworks cover several fields and so on, of which literary and art aesthetics is the mostimportant thing described in his works such “Yi Gai”,“You Yi Yue Yan” and other works.Although the academia have proceed deep research, the study of Liu Xizai’s literary andart aesthetics thoughts is still not compressive enough.The research is targeted on Liu Xizai’s works, discoursed his literary thought whichfrom literature for heart. The whole article falls into three parts: prelude, text andconclusion. The text is composed by four chapters.The prelude part mainly introduces Liu Xizai’s life and books, and relationship amonghis thoughts on philosophy, literatures and arts. It also discusses the status of researches onLiu Xizai’s literary thoughts and the method and purport of this research.The first chapter: To expound Lin Xizai’s view of literature of heart and probe therelationship between literature of heart and Confucianism, Taoist, Buddhist thoughts.The second chapter: From the point of ontology, separately expound the relationshipbetween heart and art that follow the thress levels of “Dao”,“honesty”,“true”.The third chapter: From the point of the style of the works, it emphasizes theimportant of “holding ambition” for the style. Liu Xizai approves the natural beauty of theartwork. He always seeks the natural ideal of “fresh and substance”.The four chapter: From the point of art creation, it emphasize the important of selfcultivation and capability to art creation by “keeping the metal status” and “training theknowledge”. It also emphasizes the innovation of the creative which can preferably expressthe theoretical proposition of “developing one’s own style.In a word, Lin Xizai’s point of literature for heart is the succession and developmentof traditional theories. It not only demonstrates a harmonious relation among Heaven,Earth and human, but also integrates creation subject and object.To sum up, this article, based on previous efforts of research, reviews on Liu Xizai’s heart ontology literary thoughts in a literary and aesthetic way,tries to assess the targetedobject.
