Cai Hesen is not only one of the founders of the CCP, but also early outstanding proletarian theorist, revolutionary activist of the CCP. He played a significant role in the Chinese revolutionary during his lifetime. He led and participated in many revolutionary movements, and explored the theory of the revolution. Social evolution is the theory he created in the revolutionary practice of the formation and development. During the period of the May4th movement, Cai Hesen went to contact and learn the Marxism, under the enlightenment and guidance of Yang Changji, Li Dazhao and so on. In France work-study period, he studied Marx’s classic work, and converted to a Marxist completely, and Spread Marxism to China continuously; after returning China, he applied the Marxism actively to explore the Chinese revolution road to victory, and studied social evolution deeply, wrote the book "the developmental history of the society". This book reflects Cai Hesen’s thoughts on the social evolution:discussing the family, property and national origin and evolution in detail, revealing the evolutionary history of human society, expounding the basic viewpoints----the evolution process, direct power and the final tendency. This thought is of important characteristics----scientific system, critical theory, revolutionary practice and national times. Cai Hesen’s Thoughts on the Social Evolution is the important constituent of Marxism of social development. The thoughts spread Marx materialism, inspired the people’s revolutionary enthusiasm greatly, promoted the historical course of Chinese revolution, and made significant contribution to the shape of the Mao Zedong thoughts. It opens the direction of researching Anthropology of ancient history. It is the important foundation of social development theories. This article contains three parts:firstly, it discusses the formation of Cai Hesen’s Thoughts on the Social Evolution, including the formation of the theoretical and practical basis, and the formation of the embryonic and formation stage. Secondly, it refines three basic views on Cai Hesen’s Thoughts on the Social Evolution:Social evolution is a historical evolution process; the class struggle is the direct motive force of social evolution in class; communism is the ultimate trend of social evolution, Thirdly, it evaluates Cai Hesen’s Thoughts on the Social Evolution objectively, including the characteristics, value and limitations.
