Animal husbandry is the pillar of the economy of Mongols, who lead a typical nomadic life. Unique legal system of animal husbandry has been developed since the founding of the Mongol Empire. Beginning with Yassa. a secret written code of law created by Genghis Khan, the Mongol Empire made some other laws with national characteristics, such as Atlan khan code, Wei-la-te Code, Khalkha Jirum, etc. In order to promote, protect and maintain the normal order of animal husbandry economy, laws concerning animal husbandry were worked out and improved.Pastoral economy is the main economic form of northern minorities. In order to comprehend and explore the legal system of animal husbandry’of Mongols better, this thesis briefly introduces animal husbandry laws made by Xiongnu. Xianbei of Northern Wei, Khitans of the Liao Dynasty. Nuzhen of the Jin Dynasty and Qiang of the Western Xia Dynasty. Mongolian Traditional Legal System of Animal Husbandry has a strong flavor of nomadic life, including animal husbandry tax, property-rights, epidemic prevention, livestock rescue, guard against theft, special protection of horses and so on. Introduction and research into it is of important theoretical value and practical significance for the current construction of legal system of animal husbandry.
