War and peace theory is one of the core theories of international relations theories, different theories for understanding of war and peace have different points of view. In the traditional genre classification, Realism and Liberalism have been seen as representatives of western international relations theories. Marxism has been seen as the representative of critical theories. From the perspective of historical materialism of Marxism, the private ownership is the root of war, to achieve true peace is elimination of private ownership. Realism is built around power research, regarding human nature and the international community anarchy as the roots of war, to achieve peace is to keep balance between the countries. Liberalism promoted rational principles, regarding the anarchy of the international community will lead to war, by establishing the system of collective security and international institutions can guarantee peace. These three different forms of international relations theory contain different ideological contents and academic value due to their different political and philosophic backgrounds. This article summarizes the Marxism and Liberalism, Realism’viewpoints of war and way to realize world peace in different periods and make comparisons of these three main genres’ core concepts, War causes and the ways to achieve world peace. In order to explore the root causes of the war and pursue the way to achieve world peace.
