China and Brunei has a long history of relationship, its involving the aspects of political,economic, cultural and social life. The relationship between China and Brunei had beendeepened from the Song Dynasty to the end of the Qing Dynasty.China applied the opening-up policy to the Southeast Asia in the Song Dynasty. With thetechnological development of shipbuilding and sailing, the official trade and non-governmenttrade had developed. In the Yuan Dynasty, the Chinese marine traders frequently did businessbetween the two countries, and Brunei became an important trade partner for China. TheMing Dynasty was the Golden Age between the relationship between China and Brunei; theTribute-trade also reached the peak between two countries in this period. The official tradeprevailed, and it was difficult for the development of non-government trade. The engagementof the third country traders also significantly made impact on the deepening trade relationshipbetween the two countries. The cultural exchanges had a wide-ranging development, and itsinvolving several aspects. In the Qing Dynasty, it was very difficult to conduct the exchangesbetween the two countries. Owing to the foreign invasion, it had brought the seriousinfluences on the normal relationship between the two countries. Although, the politicalrelationship between the two countries had largely been at a standstill situation, thenon-government trade conformed to the trend of the times, which injected vital stimulus forthe development of the relationship between the two countries. The cultural exchanges alsodeepened, and the Chinese cultural which was represented by Confucianism influencedexpanding at that time.This thesis is based on the historical material; the emphasis of the thesis is talking aboutthe development and change of the relationship between China and Brunei from the SongDynasty to the end of the Qing Dynasty.
