A Study Of The Zhen-shu System In The Sui Dynasty

The zhen-shu system was one of main military systems of China during the middle ancient times. The zhen came into existence as a military agency in the Sixteen States and North Wei Dynasty and developed further in Eastern Wei and North Qi, Western Wei and North Zhou, Sui, Tang and the Five Dynasties, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. It had more than1600years of history. Finally, it turned from a military agency to an administrative agency. Understanding the development of the system of the zhen of garrison troops has a profound effect on realizing the importance and function of the zhen. As a kind of military institutions in the Sixteen States and North Wei Dynasty, the Late Tang and Five Dynasties, the zhen played a quite important role for the local military in the history during the middle ancient times. This had been pointed out by the senior scholars. However, the relatively research of the zhen-shu in Sui Dynasty is rarely mentioned because the historical data was too sporadic and scattered. If we can make an overall study of the zhen-shu system, it will have a great significance in the study of the Sui Dynasty’s military system.So I will study the zhen-shu of Sui Dynasty, mainly using the Sui and Tang official history books and epitaphs and other literatures. Through those data, I will find and excerpt the records of the zhen-shu of Sui Dynasty. In accordance with the "The Geography Book of Sui Dynasty", the system comes down to explore the core part of the compilation of cost text--The zhen-shu of Sui Dynasty edits saves. According to this, I have a study of organization, force and position of the zhen-shu in Sui Dynasty.The thesis involves five parts:The first part:Introduction.This part has enumerated the study of the zhen-shu of Sui Dynasty in historical academic world.The second part:The first chapter--The collection and research of zhen-shu in Sui Dynasty.This is a core part of this article. According to "The Geography Book of Sui Dynasty", I list the names of the zhen-shu of Sui Dynasty, established and abolished times and historical provenance, collecting by the zhen-shu system arranged and research normalization reasonable. I find128zhen-shu, made full preparations on the information-related issues for future comprehensive discussion the zhen-shu of Sui Dynasty.The third part:The second chapter--The study of organization, force and position of the zhen-shu in Sui Dynasty.In this section, I will simply research the organization, force and position of the zhen-shu. In addition, this paper gives five special cases about Manager City in the early Sui Dynasty.The forth part:The third chapter--The analysis of the geographical distribution of the zhen-shu in Sui Dynasty.This section focuses on the use of the second part of the research. I will make a statistics of the zhen-shu belonging to the prefectures and counties. Then, according to Mr. Tan Qixiang editing the "Historical Atlas of China", which divided the whole nation into12regions in Sui Dynasty, I will analyse the zhen-shu in every region.The last part:Conclusion.This part carries on the concise to the full text summary.
