Wentian Zhang’s Idea Of Agricultural Economy Research

Wentian Zhang as one of the important leaders in the earlier stage of China’sCommunist Party who devoted all his wisdom and energy to the cause of China’sRevolution and Construction, in the development of agricultural economy which heeven formed his own original theoretical system.The formation of Wentian Zhang’s idea of agricultural economy was inseparablewith his personal quality and experience and more importantly because he hadintegrated basic principle of Marxism with China’s specific conditions, it was atheoretical achievement of the unification of Marxism and Wentian Zhang’s practicalstudy and survey. His idea of agricultural economy covered many areas which also hadabundant contents. The primary cause why he was able to make a great achievement inthe theory of development of agricultural economy and then put it into practice wasbecause he was brave in emancipating the mind and breaking away from set pattern ofthe planned economy, he regarded promoting rural productivity and advancingpeasants’ living standard as the primary criterion of whether the style of developmentof agricultural economy was suitable or not. On this basis, he presented a theory ofthree stages for agricultural cooperation with supporting and encouraging thedevelopment of agricultural sideline products. As the prosperity of agricultural sidelineoccupations often accompanied with the issue of wealth gap and countryside socialstratum distinctions, therefore Wentian Zhang adhere to his right idea on treating anddealing with the New Kulak Economy. Wentian Zhang thought that the development ofagricultural economy would inevitably generate some rich peasants, the existence ofrich peasants can not be deemed as the product of capitalist society but the symbol ofproductivity improvement of the socialistic China, thus the new rich peasants have thebase for their existence. In addition to this, Wentian Zhang also bring forward hisoriginal thought on market, trade and food based on the deep analysis of the forces andrelations of production, relations of social production and people’s needs.Although Wentian Zhang’s agricultural economic thought had some limitationsbecause of the restrictions of the subjective and objective environment, the relevantcontents in the development of agricultural economy still had a vital significance forour mission in building socialist new countryside, strengthening social developmentand developing modern agriculture.
