Dewey is not only the United States education thinker, philosopher ofpragmatism, but also a moral educator. All his life he paid special attention to moraleducation, moral education as a solution to social problems, enhance the decisivefactors of people happy, he basically has examined all the problems of moraleducation in the contemporary era, combined with the social status of the UnitedStates of America, the moral education system of a new type of their own. His moraleducation thought has carried on the summary and the summary to the history of allabout ethics and moral education theories, the formation and development of thethought of moral education has played a far-reaching impact. Produced far-reachingeffect to a series of social problems of his moral education thought not only to thesocial transformation of American early twentieth Century brings, but also to othercountries in the world have much to learn from experience. Therefore, we need tostudy Dewey’s thought of moral education, in order to search for new approaches tothe moral construction of citizens in China in a better direction.Dewey’s moral education aims at training in accordance with the requirements ofdemocratic society democratic society needs good members of the. Moral educationhe advocated not according to the moral goal of education activities, but themotivation and effect of combined, make the citizen social development play a goodrole in education, is to cultivate good citizenship education. In the new period, ourcountry has made some achievements in the aspects of morality, but also faces someimportant problems need to be solved. Research on Dewey’s thought of moraleducation is not only beneficial to understand the basic content of the ethics and moraleducation, but also to learn the essence of his theory and Practice for the new periodof service. In the solution of moral problems of our country of this one period and forthis stage of our moral values, this thought of Dewey might give us a lot of valuableenlightenment.This paper mainly from the four aspects of Dewey’s moral education thought isstudied: the first chapter is on the Dewey thought of civic and moral education with the social and historical background and theoretical basis; the second chapter mainlydiscusses Dewey’s thoughts of moral education content; the third chapter discusses themethods and characteristics of Dewey thought of civic and moral education; thefourth chapter discusses the ways and methods of moral construction of citizen in thenew period through evaluation of Dewey’s thought of moral education of the citizen.
