Lawyer is the professional one who is qualified to protect their clients’ legalrights by using laws. In the current situation where the state is commit itself tobuilding a socialist legal system, the lawyer is playing an important role in protectinghuman rights, guaranteeing social justice, and improving democratic laws and orders.However, because of some reasons, the negative opinions against the lawyer havebeen growing among the public. Consequently, rebooting the healthy atmosphere inthe legal industry, and improving the professional ethics of lawyers have become thefirst imperative for developing the legal industry.There are4parts of this study. In the first chapter which is the introduction, aquestion about the image of the lawyer has been deduced from the Li Zhuang perjuryCase, as there is a huge conflict between different views from the public and thelawyers. Then the necessity of studying the professional ethics of lawyers has beenraised. Additionally, the review of the Chinese and Western countries’ literatures haveprovided a base of the research. In the second part, an elaborate study on definition,categories and features of lawyers’ professional ethics has been presented, while thedifference between lawyers and the other legal profession is also demonstrated. Next,in the subsequent chapter, a detailed study on the lawyers’ professional ethics isdivided into three main sections. There is a brief to the situation that the credibility oflawyers has been declined–some individuals bring disgrace to the entire group oflawyers, while the distrust of lawyers has become a dilemma for the development ofthe legal system. Then the reasons leading to the problem are discussed in three mainaspects: the rules, the economy and the moral. Subsequently, it is argued thatimproving the professional ethics is the necessary measurement to solve the crisis ofconfidence in lawyers. The fourth chapter provides a conclusion–there is a specialnature of lawyers’ professional ethics, and thus the criticism of lawyers should bemoderated.
