OBJECTIVE To develop a questionnaire for evaluating health educationneeds of the elderly with disability and to provide a scientific testing andevaluating tool, so as to provide a reference for the health serviceinstitutions when making reasonable health education policy.METHODS According to the Maslow’s need hierarchy theory,literaturereview, semi-structured interviews, Group discussion, we formed the initialquestionnaire we modified the questionnaire through Delphi expert inquiry,and tested the reliability and validity to have the formal questionnaire; Weadopted the method of stratified cluster sampling to select300elderlypersons with disabilities in Chongqing and to have the pretest study, thereliability and validity of the scale were tested by using SPSS17.0.RESULTS We developed a questionnaire including4dimensions and25items which were physical health education needs (12items), safety healtheducation needs (5items), psychological health education needs (5items)and the self-actualization health education needs (3items);The Cronbach’s acoefficient of the questionnaire was0.846. The Cronbach’s a coefficient ofthe four dimensions was0.949,0.856,0.821and0.802,respectively. TheTest-retest reliability of the questionnaire was0.876, while the other dimensions was0.889,0.860,0.895and0.897,respectively. The contentvalidity was guaranteed through Delphi expert inquiry and the pretest study,Content validity was0.846; the structure validity was guaranteed throughexploratory factor analysis by extracting4common factors of25items, theload factor of the item ranged from0626to0924, while the explainedvariance of4factors was64.19%.CONCLUSION The health education needs questionnaire of older personswith disabilities was preliminary completed; The questionnaire wasexamined with good homogeneity and test-retest reliability, while thecontent and structure validity was also good after the pretest samples, it canbe used to evaluate health education needs of the elderly with disability.
