In1876, as Qing government dispatched Guo Songtao to London, he became the first ambassador in Chinese history. Subsequently, lots of government officials were sent on diplomatic mission to western countries. Diplomatic mission of them had important significance for modernizing diplomatism of China. China and Japan was both brought into Western County’s Treaty System nearly at the same time, but the attitude to the diplomatic mission of the two countries is different.Chinese ambassadors communicated with Japanese ambassadors in some tea parties and some western receptions. Chinese ambassadors and Japanese ambassadors visited each other and discussed many kinds of topics frequently, such as the political and economic system of western county and Japanese abroad students. Through the communication with Japanese ambassadors, Chinese ambassadors gained plenty of information about western countries in politics and economy.The communication between Chinese ambassadors and Japanese ambassadors had a great influence on Chinese ambassadors. They changed their opinions on Japan and western countries, as they recognized the mightiness of Japan and western countries. And what’s more, the communication had a great impact on the establishment of modern conception of nation and national sovereignty of Chinese ambassadors, and their diplomatic thoughts became more international than before.The conclusion is that the communication with other counties’ambassadors has important significance for the achievement of diplomatic goals.
